Before transitioning to instrument making, Medlin gained extensive woodworking experience as a carpenter, even hand-building an off-grid cabin in northern Michigan. His decision to pursue lutherie seriously was sparked by attending a performance by classical guitarist David Russell.
Operating under the name Medlin Guitars, he focuses on building high-quality, acoustic instruments. He has been a member of the Guild of American Luthiers since 2005, utilizing the organization's community resources to refine his design and construction techniques. While his primary workshop is located in Florida, he maintains seasonal ties to Michigan, where he spends his summers.
